Entrepreneurship is a liberating dream that many Americans strongly consider to put into action.
Inc. 5000 shared from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) report, 27 million working-age Americans are starting or running a new business. Fifty-one percent of those who are working see an opportunity to start a business. Of that fifty-one, eighty percent are planning to start their business within the next three years (Buchanan, 2015).
In the city where I live, it was reported in 2016, that nearly 80% of businesses in the city of Dallas were small businesses that employ 40% of the City’s workforce (Dallas Economic Development, 2016). They also reported that 90% of those small businesses fail due to lack of access to capital, talent, markets and procurement opportunities. The challenges of COVID-19 has made being an entrepreneur even more challenging.
Like many entrepreneurs, I found myself facing the typical small business challenges of staying a float. So for 20+ years, to financially support my family, keep food on the table and pay my bills, I balanced my career life wearing the hat of an employee and an entrepreneur.
In 2016 after taking a trip to China, I decided that being an entrepreneur would no longer be my part-time job or full time job. It would be my life style. So I surrounded myself with smart entrepreneurs to inform and inspire me on this journey of the entrepreneurial lifestyle. What I learned through them and through the experiences on this journey, I want to share with others.
Therefore, Smartpreneurs Like You was launched as a program under Pemberton Jones Education, Inc. to learn, celebrate and inspire entrepreneurship. My hope is that this program will encourage you to no longer be a part-time or full-time entrepreneur, but that it will be your lifestyle!
